a double-sided zine about westport, a6, 12 pages on each side. the first half, well, traces a route around westport town, and the second, nothing could be finer, follows the rail walk, a path from the quay into town.

copies are still available at €1.50 within ireland, $2.50 worldwide.

here's the introduction:

i make maps to understand where i am. up to now, i’ve only ever lived in one place, and those maps worked to peel apart the layers, diagrams of sensory experiences or journeys or carving out small areas from a much bigger place to make it into a piece i could consider all at once.

in june, i came to westport from dublin, and started with an area small enough to map in one go. because it was new to me, the maps were like tests for myself, to see what i was learning and which bits of the town i needed to explore in more detail. the first day i was here, i spent five hours walking around town, and there was enough of it for me to do that.

this project started as being more about the maps than the text, but towards the end i realised that although they informed the process all along, they said nothing new to anyone but me. so i kept them out, and the text stays, as field notes to falling in love with a new place.
